Our History

Youth With A Mission

YWAM has sent a few teams, even before a base is established in the island of Palawan. This especially became more than since Calcaben family, ex-YWAMers from Baguio base, moved to Puerto Princesa in 1984. Together with other ex YWAMers and local churches, teams always felt welcome and helped when in this area. Felix and Elisabeth Dexel, who did their DTS outreach in Palawan in 1987, felt lead to pioneer a YWAM work. They returned after three and a half years of Bible School and internship to work in April 1991. The first YWAM location in Barangay San Manuel, bought and developed by the Dexels. After several months of being by their own, three staff applied in January of 1993. Marlon Reston, Tata Banez, Eva Docto formed the first team ministering to a tribal group in the South of Palawan called Tau’t Batu. Later in the year several others joined, mostly a staff to the first Vietnamese Discipleship Training School (DTC) of 12 students. Three other DTC’s were conducted where today, some of the students have become missionaries even in Vietnam. The work in Tau’t Batu has now expanded to include student’s sponsorship and Church Planting. Several churches have been planted in the tribes and have now become fellow workers. A permanent operating location is now established in New Site Ransang, Rizal town. The base in Puerto Princesa City has been recognized under YWAM University of the Nations. Aside from Discipleship Training School running once a year, the School of Frontier Mission held one of their school in 1995 under the leadership of Jackie Schori. More operating locations that are mostly “Frontiers” in nature have started coming into the island. However, for some practical reasons all these locations are independent of the base in the city. The work in Ransang though also “Frontier” continues to work under the leadership of YWAM PPC. YWAM work regularly with other churches ministering inside the four colonies of Iwahig Prison. Some YWAM trained workers continued to minister inside the prison. In January 2004, YWAM PPC moved to a temporary location and in January 2007 we moved to Sta. Lourdes. In September 2010 we moved to our permanent location in Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa City. We continue to be a center for training, mercy ministries and missions. We consist of special ministry teams working together to train workers and youth, by providing an environment of nurture and care for the needy, as well as to send and organize missions teams so that Palawan, Philippines, and Indo – China can be impacted by the Gospel. Specifically, we have ministry focus in the in prison, tribes, dumpsite and a community in Ransang, Rizal. Our strategy is to provide, Children’s education, Discipleship Training School, Feeding program, Family seminars, and Evangelistic events.
